Hertfordshire County Council has asked people stay out of the sun between 11am to 3pm after an amber health alert.

The UK Health Security Agency amber alert will be in place from midday today (August 9) until 6pm on Saturday, with experts advising people to look out for those who are older or with existing health conditions, as well as young children.

The council recommended that people who must go outside walk in the shade, apply sunscreen, take water if travelling, stay hydrated, avoid physical exertion, and wear a wide-brimmed hat.
