A man has denied driving a Mercedes down a major Watford road after taking cocaine.

Harjinder Singh Mann, 43, is accused of driving the car in St Albans Road on September 11, 2021, with the class A drug in his system.

He is alleged to have had 64 micrograms in his blood per litre, over six times the threshold.

Update: On January 31, 2023, the case was dismissed as no evidence was offered.


The threshold was introduced in 2012 to avoid prosecutions failing because of difficulties proving a particular drug impaired a driver.

Mann, who lives in Nascot Wood Road, Watford, is also charged with having 800 micrograms of benzoylecgonine in his blood, 16 times the threshold.

Benzoylecgonine is a metabolite of cocaine formed as it passes through the body, which is tested for in urine samples.

Singh pleaded not guilty when he appeared in St Albans Magistrates’ Court and the case was adjourned for a trial on January 31, 2023, due to insufficient court time.

Singh first denied the charges at a court appearance on March 25.
