Government data has revealed which Watford secondary schools suspended and permanently excluded the most students in the 2020/2021 academic year.

Permanent exclusions

A permanent exclusion refers to a pupil who is excluded and will not come back to that school (unless the exclusion is overturned).

According to the government report, the average state secondary school in England excluded around one in every 1000 students in the 2020-2021 school year.

Only one in every 1543 secondary students in Watford was excluded, less than one pupil per school measured.

Watford Grammar School for Boys excluded one student while Westfield Academy and Future Academies Watford excluded two.

No permanent exclusions were recorded at Watford Grammar School for Girls, Parmiter’s, Saint Michael’s, or The Watford UTC.

Suspensions

Unlike a permanent exclusion, a suspension is for a fixed period, which can range from part of a single day to 45 days in an academic year.

The average state funded secondary in England gave out just under eight and a half suspensions per hundred students, with Watford schools giving out just under five and a half per hundred.

Westfield Academy had the highest permanent exclusion and suspension rate in Watford, with just under 13 suspensions per hundred students.

Watford Grammar School for Girls gave out no permanent exclusions and only issued four suspensions for its 1403 pupils.
