A Watford Facebook group gave away heaps of food and other essentials last week as they organised their first foodbank event.

Watford Free Cycle Support Group boasts 3,100 members who share items that they are willing to give away each day, on their Facebook page.

The team of group organisers Lidia Rufolo, Samantha Seamons, and Kelly Shrimpton had already been supporting families by preparing food parcels and running a pop up to give away donated clothes.

From 11am to 2pm on Friday (September 23) group members organised a trial run of a “small foodbank”.

Members had organised two drop offs, at their own houses, to collect food and other essentials and still weren’t sure they how much they would get ahead of the event, but afterwards described it as “so good” and “a perfect day”.

Mrs Rufolo said: “It worked out that we collected quite a lot.

“We had hot drinks and biscuits so that we could have a good chat with everyone, as sometimes it’s the only time people will get the chance.

“We had a great response so we are going to do it again next month and since it will be Halloween we are also planning some goodie bags for the little ones.”
