Hertfordshire Constabulary has revealed its policy on burglaries after police chiefs nationally committed to attending every home break-in.

Police will have to attend all home burglaries under a new set of standards intended to lead to more prosecutions and get more crimes solved.

The National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) said chief constables will work to ensure the approach is implemented “as soon as practically possible”.

While some forces already have a policy in place to go to all home burglaries, others attend only where victims are vulnerable or elderly, or there is evidence to follow up.

Hertfordshire Constabulary has revealed it is one of the forces that already has the policy in place.

A spokesperson said: “Hertfordshire Constabulary has a policy which requires attendance at the scene of a dwelling burglary and has done for some time.

“This is line with the national position.”
