A Hertfordshire police officer has gone on trial after he denied four counts of raping a child.

Response officer James Ford, 31, has been charged with 10 sex offences against the same girl aged under 13.

Alongside four counts of rape of a child aged under 13, he is also charged with two counts of assaulting a child under 13 by penetration, two of sexual assault against a child under 13 and two of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity.

All charges are alleged to have occurred between late 2019 and late 2021.

Ford, formerly of Bishop’s Stortford, appeared in Cambridge Crown Court today (October 13) as part of the ongoing trial.

Hertfordshire Constabulary has declined to comment on the case until it has concluded.
