All lines were blocked, but the lines through platforms 8 and 9 have since reopened allowing stranded trains to move.

It comes after major delays were already crippling the route.

Just outside London Euston, passengers had to be escorted off a stranded train from around 8.50am after 25,000-volt cables that power trains came down.

Railway engineers and firefighters were called to the scene and commuters were warned of major disruption until the end of the day.

Before 11am, National Rail also reported disruptions for services between Watford Junction and London Euston due to a points failure in the Wembley Central area.

The Abbey Flyer line was also blocked due to a safety inspection. Disruption is expected until 3pm.
