A mother of eight and grandmother to 15 received amazing support after a "devastating" inoperable cancer diagnosis.

Jayne Clarke, 55, found out she had primary breast cancer between Christmas and New Year. It has now spread to several lymph nodes including her armpit, collarbone, and neck.

The grandmother, born and raised in Watford, has been “absolutely overwhelmed” by the support and generosity people have shown since her children set up a GoFundMe page.

At time of writing the fundraiser has received 46 donations totalling £2,140.

Her daughter Lindsay Duffy said: “It was devastating. She’s so young and it's left her feeling very down.

“I think it affected all our mental health. She’s understandably worried, but she knows she has got loads of support.”

The fundraising aims to provide for options such as wigs, eyelashes, and other treatments - including potential reconstruction surgery if it is possible.

Jayne, who now lives in Hemel Hempstead, will start chemotherapy as soon as possible in the hope it destroys the cancer cells so she can then have breast surgery. The collarbone and neck are inoperable.

Lindsay added: “The support has been really good.

“It’s relieved the stress of finances a bit and its great to know people are out their rooting for her.”

Her daughters explained that Jayne “found it very difficult to accept her diagnosis” especially as initial bad news was compounded by later discoveries.

Initial mammograms were not picking up the primary cancer, so she had to have lots of other testing before a “very sudden diagnosis”.

Friends and family sent messages of support, including Lisa Field who said: “My beautiful best friend, I am here for you if you need anything.”

Aimee McCormack said: “Jayne you were like a mum to me growing up. You are one of the strongest ladies I know.”

Kelly Catchpole said she was “sending love and wishes”, adding that her family is always ready to help.

Kerri Dark said: “My beautiful Auntie Jayne, as a family we are going to be by your side and give you all the support you need. Love you.”

Emily Seakins added: "You are so strong, you're not alone in this."
