A “first of its kind” 255-home retirement village has officially opened in Watford.
The Mayfield scheme near Watford General Hospital consists of one and two-bedroom retirement apartments with access to communal gardens, a swimming pool, gym, and cafe-bistro.
It forms part of the wider Riverwell development and an official opening was held last week (February 9).
Retirement village provider the Audley Group says Mayfield is “the first of its kind in the UK”.

CEO Nick Sanderson and Watford mayor Peter Taylor were joined by residents, alongside their friends and family, to mark the occasion after owners started to move in late last year.
Mr Sanderson added: “Officially opening the doors at Mayfield Watford is something we are immensely proud of.
“It’s been brilliant to see the community come to life in such a short time.
“This will only grow in the coming weeks, and months, as the village becomes an integral part of the wider Watford Riverwell community.”

The mayor said: “It’s been a real pleasure to celebrate the official opening of Mayfield Watford and meet some of the new property owners.
“It’s these innovative solutions, centred around wellbeing, that we need to meet the challenges of our ageing population.”
