We recently asked what you want Watford Borough Council to focus on - and the response was immense.

Here we round up some of your main priorities and how Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor responded to the issues raised.

You asked for quality housing for families – more houses instead of flats

Mr Taylor outlined the following developments in Riverside Road, Chesham Way and Lutreola Close which are all three-bedroom houses with gardens, and two-bedroom homes such as Centrepoint, Amwell Close and Brightwell Court, as well as flats.

Overall, there are 56 in total.

He added: “Our joint work, [with Watford Community Housing] which includes the Social Rent Programme, also means we are enabling people to have decent homes to live in.”

Mr Taylor added that the government has set “high housing targets for Watford” and with a lack of land, developers have built tall buildings in the town.

He said: “I will continue to fight for a much fairer system where local people have more say.”

You asked for more CCTV in the town centre

Mr Taylor said: “Over the last year we have increased the number of cameras and we are continuing to work closely with the police to use the cameras to tackle crime."

You asked for more resident parking

Mr Taylor said that more parking could increase the number of cars, leading to greater congestion and, therefore, higher pollution levels.

However, he added: “With government housing targets, we need to consider the population increase in the town and parking provision.

“We are working on projects like the Watford Car Club and a park and ride to improve the situation.”

You asked for more youth projects to support young people and people with learning disabilities

Mr Taylor highlighted Watford Mencap in 92a Langley Road.

He said: “The new home marks the start of an exciting future for the charity, providing scope for more facilities and services and offering a hub for similar activities run by other groups and organisations including Playskill who are also based at the site.”

He listed the following leisure facilities for young people that have or are being invested in:

  • Oxhey Activity Park
  • New sports village at Woodside
  • Garston Park skate park facility
  • Cassiobury park tennis courts

You asked for a cleaner town

Mr Taylor said a deep clean takes place every year and the council is supporting the Great British Spring Clean.

You called for ULEZ to be stopped

Mr Taylor said it was wrong for the expansion to take place so quickly without providing support for residents.

You called for Watford and Bushey stations to be brought under zone 6

He said: “We recently passed a council motion calling on Sadiq Khan to end this historic injustice and lower fares for Watford residents.

“It is disappointing that he seems to be sticking his fingers in his ears and ignoring these calls.”
