Suspected rogue traders have been arrested after reports of a scam that saw a man in his late 60s pay out thousands.

On March 9 Hertfordshire Constabulary arrested two men after the traders had been working on a home in Romilly Drive, Carpenders Park.

They visited several times in relation to roof repairs and each time the level of work required and the cost of carrying it out increased.

By the time police arrived, the resident had already parted with thousands of pounds in cash over two days.

The men were arrested on suspicion of fraud by failing to disclose information.

They have been bailed while the force continues to investigate, and the resident has got his money back.

In a social media post, Three Rivers Police described the arrest as: “Good news from the South Oxhey Safer Neighbourhood Team and Three Rivers Intervention Team.”

The local officers added they are “pleased to say” the man's cash had been returned.
