Major improvements to a railway junction in Watford will see four main line tracks closed.

Network Rail has advised passengers planning to use West Coast services this Easter to travel before or after the Good Friday (April 7) to Easter Monday (April 11) period.

No trains will run between Milton Keynes Central and London Euston while the final phase of a project to overhaul Watford Junction is underway.

The £15 million project has lasted three years and involved remodelling track and signalling systems so more trains can run on the route in the future.

West Coast main line tracks will need to be closed at Watford, the Abbey Line will be replaced with buses, and London Euston will also be closed.

Other London Northwestern Railway journey times are expected to be longer, with rail replacement buses in operation.

Network Rail route director James Dean said: “This Easter bank holiday weekend we're returning to Watford junction to complete a huge £15m upgrade which will transform the way we can move trains through the area, meaning fewer delays and extra capacity on this economically important passenger and freight route.”
