A local headteacher said running the London Marathon and raising almost £6,000 for her school was “the best day of my life”.

Cherry Tree Primary School's Cheska Tyler completed the race on April 23 to inspire her pupils.

Miss Tyler said: “I wanted to inspire activity amongst my school community and really show the children, parents, and staff that they can do anything if they are brave and aim high, these are two of our school beliefs.

“I also wanted to share the experience with some of the children and extend their knowledge of London and big events.

“I took eight Year 5 children to pick up my race number on a school trip and we went to see the landmarks on the route. Most of them hadn't seen them before so it was a very special day.”

A JustGiving page, featuring training updates since February, garnered 165 donations totalling £5,445 plus £513 in gift aid, meaning it has already almost doubled its £3,000 goal as of April 24.

"It was the best day of my life,” Miss Tyler added.

“I loved every step and was so well supported by friends, family, staff and children all supporting either at the side lines or virtually. It made it (almost) easy.”
