Police have confirmed that a late-night search that saw people woken by helicopters safely found a missing man.

Yesterday (May 30), at 11.04pm, Hertfordshire Constabulary said they were seeking information about a man in his 70s believed at the time to be missing in either the Watford or Hemel Hempstead area.

By this morning (May 31), the force shared an update saying he was found “safe and well” after a search which involved a police presence in Langley Way at around 1.05am.

Locals reported hearing a helicopter circling overhead in North Watford and Abbots Langley, which police have confirmed was related to the search for the man.

Numerous people said they were woken up by the search and, after people speculated it may have related to the appeal, residents shared their relief he was eventually found.

Hertfordshire Constabulary thanked everyone who shared their appeal for information, which included a photo of the man, after he was found.
