A 58-year-old man police believe was involved in two crashes on the M1 this morning has died.
Herts Police are appealing for witnesses, information, and dashcam footage following the fatal incident in the M1.
A Kia and a BMW were involved in the first crash, on the southbound carriageway near junction 6A, and police were alerted just before 5am today (July 31), but before officers arrived two people who had been travelling in one of the vehicles had left the scene.

Shortly after, the force received a call from the ambulance service and another M1 crash was reported, this time involving a van travelling northbound between junctions 6 and 8 and a pedestrian.
The pedestrian, a 58-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed and are being supported by police.
Sergeant Ian Manley said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this very difficult time.
“Our enquiries into the collisions are continuing, but at this time we are treating them as linked.
“We believe the man who passed away was travelling in one of the vehicles involved in the first collision. We are still working to trace the other person who left the scene prior to our arrival.”
Police requested the use of a Herts Fire and Rescue drone to help them locate them, the fire service confirmed. One fire engine was sent to the scene to assist with the use of the drone.
Herts Police shared an appeal for information from the public.
“I am particularly interested in speaking to a coach driver who was driving north on the M1 at the time of the incident and may have crucial information to help with our investigation,” added Sergeant Manly.
“Did you see what happened, or have any information that may help our enquiries?
“Additionally, if you were driving in the area and have a dash cam fitted, please check it as you may have recorded come crucial footage that could assist our investigation.”
