Resurfacing works are underway in a Watford road once labelled the town’s “worst” for potholes, as pictures show the progress so far.

Gammons Lane in North Watford, home to Beechfield School, is undergoing 14 days of repairs having long been scheduled for full resurfacing.

It started yesterday (July 31) and is set to continue until August 17 as workers move up the road, closing it to traffic in stages.

Phase one, set to be completed today, covers from the traffic lights at the junction with Longspring up to 128 Gammons Lane, which is near the Callowland Recreation Ground bus stops.

Labour county councillor Asif Khan, who had long pushed for the repairs, said: “Great to see Gammons Lane finally getting resurfaced.

“It's taken a lot longer for it to get the work done, but after a lot of pressure and perseverance it's almost there.”

He had previously described the road as “dangerous for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists”.

All road closures will be in effect from 9.30am until 4.30pm.
