A man has died following a “serious crash” earlier this morning.

Police were called just after 5.50am today (August 28) to reports of a crash on the A414 between Hemel Hempstead and Park Street.

It is reported that an Audi travelling southbound collided with the central reservation.

Road closures are in place on Breakspear Way at the junction of Green Lane.

A Herts police spokesperson said: “Sadly, the sole occupant of the Audi was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by our officers.”

They confirmed that a 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He is in custody at this time.

The fire service informed the Watford Observer that they were called to the scene but on arrival they were not required.

National Highways has said they were alerted to the crash at 6.03am.

The agency has announced that traffic is being diverted via local routes while road closures are in place.

Herts police have advised that there are no times for reopening.

The East of England Ambulance Trust has been approached for a comment.
