No trains are expected to depart on a Watford train line for more than three hours as another is expected to be “very busy”.

The Abbey Line, between Watford Junction and St Albans Abbey, is closed due to a fault on a train between the two stations.

The closure was confirmed at 12.36pm today (September 5) and no trains are expected until 3.30pm.

Update: trains are now able to operate on the line

Tickets can be used on the 321 bus between Watford and St Albans and train routes changing at London Euston or London St Pancras to continue on to St Albans City station.

National Rail confirmed that rail replacement buses will run between the stations.

Separately, there are no trains running between Northampton and Milton Keynes due to ongoing engineering works scheduled from September 2 to 10.

London Northwestern Railway had already warned that during the works its other London Euston services are “likely to be very busy” before the Abbey Line was closed.

It was then confirmed, at 1.07pm, that due to a signalling issue disruption is expected through St Albans City in the early afternoon.
