Police are investigating after two pupils were reportedly stabbed near Oaklands College in Hertfordshire yesterday (Monday, October 9).

Photographs circulating on social media show a heavy police presence in the area, and it is understood that armed police, the police helicopter and an air ambulance were all sent to the scene.

Witnesses told The Sun that two pupils from the college in St Albans were stabbed, though this is not confirmed. CCTV footage from a nearby business showed a man with a machete.

The incident reportedly occurred near the St Albans campus, in Hatfield Road, shortly after 3pm, with pupils then told to leave the college.

A statement was published on the Oaklands College Facebook page at 10pm, stating that there had been a "serious incident" near the college, and confirming that their campus had been used "as a central space for the emergency services".

"We take the safety and security of our students and our staff extremely seriously.

"It is our number one priority to ensure that the college community is a completely safe place for learning and we will be increasing security presence tomorrow for reassurance.

"We are working closely with the police who are investigating the incident."

They confirmed that the college is open as normal today (Tuesday, October 10).

A number of parents have complained to the college on social media about a lack of information on the incident. Many have asked whether it is safe to continue sending their children into the college.

Herts Police and the East of England Ambulance Service have been approached for comment.
