Motorists have been warned they should expect delays as a 24/7 lane closure is set to get underway today.

Affinity Water will be undertaking “essential” utility repair and maintenance works under a lane closure at the Dome roundabout from this morning (October 10) until Thursday (October 12).

The traffic measures have been logged as “delays likely” on One Network. The footway will also be closed but an alternative pedestrian route will be provided.

In its description for the works, Affinity Water said: “We are currently carrying out essential maintenance in your area, this is on-going work to improve our service to you.”

Previous road and lane closures on or around the roundabout have caused very significant delays for motorists, such as in February this year when locals described taking "30 minutes to travel a quarter of a mile".

Update: It is the outside lane that is closed, alongside the pavement, for the stretch between Colne Way and St Albans Road. There is still access to St Albans Road for vehicles and a pedestrian diversion route.

The works are to repair a water main under the pavement, Hertfordshire County Council confirmed.
