Motorists have experienced “gridlock” traffic conditions near the dome roundabout this afternoon.

Journeys in North Watford have reportedly taken half an hour to a quarter of an hour longer due to the “terrible” conditions.

A road closure at the A41 M1 Junction 5 Roundabout, by Stephenson Way, has diverted traffic towards the dome roundabout and onto St Albans Road - where there are more potential delays.

A number of people have taken to social media to warn others to avoid the delays describing “gridlock” and “terrible traffic”.

One person said it had taken “30 minutes to travel a quarter of a mile” and another reported being in traffic for 45 minutes.

According to One Network the closure, for waterproofing and resurfacing roadworks, could be in place until February 6.

Potential delays along the diversion include a closed lane and a separate closure by Garston Fire Station, in St Albans Road.
