A man is believed to have fallen from a bridge before being hit by a vehicle in the M1 – sparking a police appeal.

Herts Police are appealing for witnesses, information, and dash cam footage after the death of a man in his 30s in the early hours of this morning.

Officers had been called to the scene at around 1.50am today (October 12) as concerns for a man in the northbound M1 carriageway between junction 5 (Watford) and junction 6 (North Watford) were reported.

The force closed the road to allow emergency services, including the ambulance and fire and rescue services, to work at the scene.

"Sadly, the man, aged in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene," Herts Police confirmed.

"His family are being supported by our officers."

Sergeant Alex Ward added: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this very difficult time.

“Our enquiries are at a very early stage, but we believe that the man may have fallen from a bridge above the carriageway and subsequently been involved in a collision with a vehicle.
