A 20-metre 5G mast is set to go ahead despite objections claiming that it is “unsightly”.

A grass area in Bushey Mill Lane, Watford, at a junction with Greycaine Road, was chosen by Cornerstone, which has a commercial relationship with Vodafone, as the site of a new 5G pole.

Four objection letters from three people living nearby were submitted after the company applied for planning permission on September 20, but permission was still granted yesterday (October 13).

The proposal was described as “unsightly” and unnecessary from members of the public, with two objectors calling for it to be built further into the Greycaine Road industrial estate instead of opposite homes.

One person claimed that because there is already a base station at the nearby North Watford railway station another should not be built.

Recommending that prior approval be granted, the planning officer highlighted that the site is within the industrial estate and not on the residential side of the road.

They added that the nearby site cannot be upgraded due to underground issues with the railway location.

The pole is set for a grass area at the first junction with Greycaine Road, nearer Watford North station.
