Watford Junction trains were delayed or cancelled last night after a person was pronounced dead at a nearby station.

Just before 10.30pm (November 1), London Northwestern Railway confirmed that trains between Milton Keynes and Watford Junction were subject to delays and/or cancellation.

The company added that it was due to an “emergency incident”, which was later confirmed to be a fatality at Berkhamsted Train Station.

This morning, a British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Berkhamsted railway station at around 10.15pm yesterday following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended, however sadly the person was pronounced dead on the scene. A file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Ticket acceptance was in place on Avanti West Coast services as well as the London Overground while services were stopped.

Just after 1am this morning, London Northwestern Railway announced that the line had cleared and services were moving between Milton Keynes and Watford Junction again, subject to delays.
