A special recognition award was presented to Ian, who played at the service for 15 years.

Andrew Filer, who organised the service, said: “Ian approached me many years ago after seeing me play the last post through my phone. He felt it needed to be given the reverence it deserved, a more professional, dignified approach.

“At events like this it’s a time to reflect and think of those who served their country but also given so much to their community. We are living in uncertain times, so maintaining a strong community spirit is important.”

Wreathes were laid by Deputy Lieutenant John Radcliffe on behalf of the Armed Services, and Sarah and James Cubitt on behalf of the community. Others were also laid by Karen Cooper, president of the Oxhey Village Violets Women's Institute, Herts Police and ward councillors.
