Five people from around Watford have been celebrated in the New Year Honours list.

Special honours are given to people who make outstanding contributions to their community and the country, with the New Year Honours acknowledging 1,227 people in the UK this year.

They range from politicians, musicians, and actors to senior diplomats and elite sports stars.

These five people have been recognised from the areas near Watford.

Noel Cronin

Noel Desmond Cronin, founder of Talking Pictures TV, was awarded a British Empire Medal(BEM) for services to Television Broadcasting.

Mr Cronin is from Chipperfield, and started the popular vintage film and nostalgia channel, which remains an independent family business, in 2015 to preserve smaller and more obscure older British films.

Salim Janmohamed

He came into the role with 27 years of experience as an energy project development lawyer.

Another Rickmansworth figure to be made MBE was Dr Richard Kenneth Howard Wyse, for his services to medicine in the area of Parkinson’s disease.
