Shopping habits may have changed but the last few weeks before Christmas have always been a busy time for retailers, including market traders.
These pictures from the Watford Observer archive were taken by one of our photographers in December 1969 and they show the bustling scene at Watford Market as shoppers looked for a last-minute bargain or were busy buying food for the festive scene.
They also also superbly capture some of the characters who ran stalls in the market at that time who some readers may remember.
- Do you have any memories of the Cookery Nook?
- The pub site that is now home to a McDonald's
- Striking pictures unearthed of Watford's ring road being built
We hope you enjoy looking through these archive pictures and they bring back recollections of a different shopping era.
