Police said occupants were “very lucky not to star in the next Final Destination film” after a terrifying M1 crash.

Emergency services were called to Junction 5 (Watford) northbound last night (January 18) and confirmed they had closed the carriageway at around 8pm.

Shortly afterwards, the Beds, Cambs & Herts Road Policing Unit shared a shocking photo of the car they were dealing with following its crash.

In the image, a fence post had gone through the front window, taking an angle between the two front seats that avoided where occupants would have sat. The front of the vehicle had also been destroyed as it crumpled during the impact.

In a post on X(formerly Twitter) the unit said: “All occupants were very lucky not to star in the next Final Destination film.

“The weather is getting colder so drive accordingly.”

National Highways confirmed the closure was in place between Watford at Junction 5 and Bricket Wood at Junction 6. The motorway reopened fully at 10pm after the accident was cleared.
