A popular community tradition is set to continue after a team from a recruitment company showed off their flipping finesse to triumph on Pancake Day.

The 25th Ricky Pancake Race was held on Tuesday and the four speedy runners from Cityscape Recruitment were crowned champions.

The event is organised by Watford Mencap and, as the Watford Observer reported earlier this month, it was feared the race could come to an end unless it received more support from businesses and the wider community.

However, the charity is confident this year’s event will encourage more teams to take part next year and are hopeful the race will be able to continue.

Donations to the event are still open at https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/rickypancakerace2024 and all money raised helps the charity to provide services and activities for people with learning disabilities.

Wielding frying pans and big smiles, businesses took to the competition head on in Rickmansworth High Street in the race sponsored by Gibbs Gillespie and the Coach & Horses.

From Gibbs Gillespie's seasoned flippers to CLPM’s spirited rookies, each team relished the challenge.

Teams from Mercer & Hole, Savills, Distinctly and Bridgewater Care Home also took part, but it was the quartet from Cityscape Recruitment that crossed the finishing line first.

The day belonged not just to speed, but also inclusivity. The ‘Fun Flippers’ race returned, welcoming people supported by Watford Mencap to take part. Their joy and determination was infectious, reminding everyone that the race isn't just about pancakes, it's about celebrating everyone in the community.

Watford Mencap’s fundraising manager Michelle Hamilton said: "The Rickmansworth community's spirit today was truly fantastic! Seeing businesses, volunteers, and people of all abilities come together to champion inclusion and raise vital funds warms the heart. It's a testament to the power of community.

“We can’t wait to come back next year and hope to make the race bigger than ever.”
