Drone photos show the latest progress on the Meriden development as a green and path were unveiled.

Over the weekend, the grass area around the temporary car park between The Gossamers and York Way were opened as part of the area's £36 million regeneration project.

The overall work is set to create 131 homes for affordable or social rent, a 50-bed extra care facility for elderly people, and two homes for shared ownership. Throughout the project, drone photos have offered a glimpse of what is going on behind the fences.

The latest step forward is the removal of barriers near the car park, opening up a route from the parking directly to the shops in York Way.

A children’s play area that forms part of the green remains fenced off, as it is not yet complete, and newly planted trees next to it are also protected by barriers.

Elsewhere many more of the homes have taken shape with any remaining building work now removed except for around the planned extra-care facility (where the Gossamers shopping parade used to be), which forms a separate phase of the works.

However, with recent news around remedial works to address “structural defects” at Cygnet House and Plover House (above the York Way shops), work could be returning to the completed area.

According to Watford Community Housing, it will need to carry out more assessments to determine exactly what will be required there.
