Six people from Watford have been ordered to pay a £3,064.30 total after being taken to court for rail fare dodging.

Regulated ticket prices across England and Wales have risen by nearly five per cent this week despite train cancellations being among the highest levels for 10 years.

However, people looking to avoid paying might want to think twice after seeing how much Watford rail users had to shell out following court appearances this year.

Govia Thameslink Railway has been particularly prolific in chasing up Watford fines, taking five people to Barkingside Magistrates’ Court.
