A hospital is seeking permission to install 142 solar panels on its roof.
On Wednesday (March 6), Bupa submitted the planning application for Spire Bushey Hospital’s flat roof to Hertsmere Borough Council.
According to the designs, the photovoltaic cells would cover almost the entire flat area of the main block’s roof, in Heathbourne Road.
Spire Healthcare Group is one of the largest private healthcare providers in the UK.
In 2021, it announced that it was committed to going carbon neutral by the end of 2030.
Installing photovoltaic solar panels on the roof of Spire Cardiff “with similar projects to follow at other Spire hospitals”, was among the initiatives announced at the time.
The planning application is currently “pending consideration”.

Plan refused
In another planning update, a proposal to add another bedroom to a Watford HMO has been rejected.
It sought to turn a six person property in Westland Road into a seven person “large HMO”.
Watford Borough Council ruled that the applicant had not demonstrated that refuse arrangements and suitable quality of accommodation in terms of room sizes had not been demonstrated.
