Network Rail has apologised to passengers after “major disruption” at Watford Junction yesterday.

For around 12 hours from Sunday afternoon to the early hours of this morning trains between Watford and London were left in disarray due to a fault with the signalling system.

A faulty power cable had to be replaced overnight to address the issue.

This afternoon (March 18), the route director for the West Coast South service, James Dean, offered a commitment that the railway company will do better.

He said: “I’m really sorry to passengers affected by the disruption at London Euston due to a signalling fault on Sunday, March 17.

“We worked hard to get train services safely back on the move, but know that to our valued passengers this was not a great travelling experience.

“We must do better, and are prioritising ways that we can do that.”

All lines at Watford Junction were initially blocked. Although they reopened later in the afternoon, major disruption remained until around 2.30am.
