Questions have been raised over the future of a performing arts school after the church it is based in was put on sale for £1.75 million.

The site at 154 High Street used to home of the Bushey United Reformed Church until it closed in 2010 due to staff shortages.

It has since been used as a performing arts school, firstly for the Margaret Howard Theatre School - which is the landlord - and more recently the MPAA Academy.

The 0.32 acre site, with a large grounds and car park, was put up for sale with vacant possession on Rightmove on Monday, March 18.

After the Watford Observer approached the landlord for comment, the advert was removed overnight but relisted on Zoopla the next day.

The Margaret Howard Theatre School initially said it asked for the first advert to be removed but declined to comment on the second listing.

It is unclear what the potential sale with vacant possession means for the building's current tenant, MPAA Academy, which did not respond to a request for comment.

The academy offers three-year undergraduate courses in musical theatre, with 20 to 25 students in each cohort, as well as part-time dance teacher training.

The Grade-II listed building, which was built in 1904, retains the F1 class for use as a school, library, or church.

The ground floor features main and secondary halls, which can seat over 200 people, while on the mezzanine floor there are office facilities and two meeting rooms.
