A man has been charged with possessing an offensive weapon and going equipped for theft after police stopped “a man acting suspiciously”.

Three Rivers Police officers spotted a man who had apparently been acting suspiciously in Chorleywood Road, Rickmansworth, at around midday last Friday (April 12).

After the officers stopped and searched him, he was found to be in possession of a screwdriver.

Lee Burnage, 50, of Berkeley Gardens, London, was subsequently charged with going equipped for theft and possession of an offensive weapon and is due to appear at St Albans Magistrates' Court on Tuesday April 30.

During confirmation that he had been charged, Herts Police also reminded members of the public that they can report crime and any suspicious behaviour to police online, by calling 101 (or 999 in an emergency, or anonymously by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via its website.
