Workers have closed a Watford road after a sinkhole opened up in the carriageway.

Hertfordshire County Council’s highways team, which is currently working to make the area safe, has confirmed a “large void” appeared in The Brow, in the Woodside area.

It is believed to have appeared on Saturday evening (May 4) and is on the corner with Louvain Way, directly opposite the men’s barber shop Beyond Cuts.

The road was closed to traffic that day, between Louvain Way and Newhouse Crescent, but it appears work to repair it has only begun this morning (May 7). According to the county council, repairs are scheduled to last until May 21.

Businesses in the parade of shops in that stretch of road are still able to receive deliveries and customers have been able to find somewhere park nearby and walk over with little difficulty.
