“Appalling” fly-tippers have struck again at a football club after leaving “10 truckloads” the night before.

Herts Police confirmed they were called to reports of waste being dumped in the car park by Oxhey Jets in Altham Way, South Oxhey, at around 7.50pm yesterday (January 7).

Suspects had already made off by the time officers arrived on the scene. Three Rivers District Council is currently leading the investigation.

It came just a night after mounds of industrial rubbish, fences, and household items were fly-tipped near the club's pitches after offenders are believed to have cut the locks to get in.

South Oxhey residents have blasted the “audacity” of offenders returning for a second time, with commentors on social media saying it was “shocking” and “heartbreaking” to see.

According to Oxhey Jets founder and general manager John Elliott, environmental health officers described the first fly-tip as “one of the biggest they’ve ever seen”.

The club was forced to postpone yesterday evening’s Hertfordshire FC Charity Shield home match due to the fly-tip blocking access to the ground, as well as a waterlogged pitch.

(Image: Oxhey Jets) Deputy council leader Sarah Nelmes said: “It’s disappointing that fly-tippers have again targeted the Oxhey Jet’s football grounds. This behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

“Our environmental enforcement officers will continue to investigate and work to remove the vast amount of what has been fly-tipped.

“I would reiterate that if anyone has any information in connection with this incident or the previous fly-tip, please get in touch with the 24-hour hotline on 0800 807 060.

"I would also remind residents to never tamper with evidence at the scene of a fly-tip and to report to the police if they have ever witnessed fly-tipping in progress.”

It is not the first time the land has been targeted, with a smaller dump happening around two years ago.
