Police are set to start handing out penalty notices to parents parking dangerously during the school run.
Officers in Abbots Langley, Bedmond, Gade Valley, and Leavesden, have received “numerous complaints” over parking problems during the past months.
A message, shared via the Herts Connected platform, added that this relates to both school drop off and pick up times at “our local schools”.
“The concerns raised are almost always connected to the safety of children, parents, school staff and local residents," Supervisor PCSO Dean Redhead said.
“There has also been concerns that emergency vehicles would have problems attending locations should the need arise.
“This is not the responsibility of our local schools. They are there to teach the children, they are not there to teach adults on how to park correctly. This is responsibility of the driver.”
Herts Police have apparently tried placing articles in school newsletters, written to specific drivers advising them they are committing offences, and had a high-visibility presence at problem areas.
Despite this, “the problems continue to persist”.
“We are left in a position that we feel that we now need to look to issue penalties notices for these offences,” the message continued.
“This is something we have tried to avoid.”
Motorists are urged not to block the pavement or limit space so that a fire engine could not pass, or park on the bends of junctions and yellow lines.

Fixed penalties will apparently be issued as appropriate “in the very near future” in the area.
“We do know that some drivers do either park away from the school or walk with their children to school – for this we would like to thank those drivers,” the supervisor PCSO added.
Previous warnings about unsafe parking in and around Abbots Langley had highlighted Bedmond School, Tanners Wood JMI, St Pauls C of E, and The Divine Saviour Primary School as schools where patrols had spotted “unsafe parking practices during school drop off and pick up times” this year.
