Parents could be prosecuted over 'dangerous' school parking

Herts Police issued warnings over the years to parents at St Paul’s Church of England Primary School, off Langleybury Lane, but it appears this did not cut through for some.

After advising fines would be coming if dodgy parking persisted in November, officers were out taking down details and photographing cars yesterday (January 27).

“Several vehicles were left in a manner that created significant danger and serious obstruction,” said PCSO Dean Redhead in a message to parents and guardians.

“This behaviour puts children and families at risk, delays emergency access, and causes damage to the local area.”

Examples included blocking live traffic lanes as well as entrance and exit access, mounting pavements and grass verges, stopping on keep clear markings, and blocking footpaths.

Parents who were caught may face enforcement action including fixed penalty notices or notices of intended prosecution.

More serious action including Section 59 (Police Reform Act 2002) warnings, which could end with vehicle seizure or even immediate removal, could result from repeated breaches, mounting pavements, and “causing a dangerous or serious obstruction".

The PCSO added: “Thank you to the many families who park safely and considerately every day.

“We need everyone to do the right thing so that all children can arrive and leave school safely.”
