Hertfordshire areas with most 1/5 and 0/5 hygiene ratings

While just one business in the Three Rivers district holds a 1/5 rating, 12 different locations serving food across the Hertsmere area bear the same score.

However, both have no firms currently operating under 0/5 ratings while Stevenage has two.

Watford Borough Council’s area is on the lower end of the scale, with four 1/5 ratings and no 0/5 ratings.

Council officers carry out food hygiene inspections within their area and give ratings on a consistent scale nationally, to help inform customers deciding where to eat.

While businesses with solid scores may not be reinspected for two years, those with 0/5 or 1/5 scores get closer attention from the council to help them improve.

They are often reinspected quickly after confirming steps they were told to take at the last inspection have been acted on. If these improvements are not made enforcement action up to closing down the business could be taken.

This means the number of businesses on low scores can change significantly within a relatively short period of time.
