Watford bungalow to be demolished for two houses on land

After plans for three homes on the site in Holtsmere Close, off St Albans Road, were dismissed at appeal in 2022, the applicant came back with the latest application in April.

This was approved yesterday (August 4), as council officers found it “will have no harmful impacts on the amenities of adjoining properties”.

Their report said: “The proposal is considered an appropriate and acceptable development of this suburban site for family housing and is welcomed.

“It would enhance the character and appearance of the surrounding area and is acceptable in terms of its layout, scale, and design.”

Alongside reducing the number of homes, the properties have been set back further from the road and parking has been reworked since the original proposal.

The application site is the only bungalow in its road.

Both of the detached homes would be two storey and three bedroom but would have different designs. The larger property would have an additional study and snug on the ground floor, while the other would be almost entirely open plan downstairs.

One off-street parking space was set aside for each.
