The removal of 71 controversial boulders from a village green is finally set to begin – but another 92 will remain for now.
Croxley Green Parish Council has confirmed work along The Green will begin tomorrow (August 7) as it has agreed to donate the parking barriers to Chiltern Open Air Museum.
Those outside The Artichoke and The Coach and Horses will remain in place “while the next steps are being worked on”, the council added.
Chair Cllr Natalie Reed said: “We are very happy to have been able to donate the rocks to such a fantastic charity and are working with other such local organisations to find homes for the remainder once they are removed in the near future.”
The boulders were initially placed at the start of August 2025 to prevent parking on the green, which had caused damage to the grass over the years.
However, many residents and community groups claimed they did more harm than good and labelled them a “dreadful mess”, an “absolute eyesore”, and “absolutely horrid”.
That October, an obscure rule was dug up which revealed the correct permissions were not in place because they spanned more than 200 metres and, by January, Croxley Green parish councillors had voted for their removal.
Croxley Green Residents Association chair Barry Grant said: “We’re very pleased to see them go - of course it’s just been over a year that it has taken to do that.
“We look forward to the second batch going sooner than later. It will be good to get back to where we were with the wooden posts.”
It is understood that another form of barrier to prevent illegal parking will be installed in place of the boulders at key locations following removal.

Three Rivers District Council installed the boulders at the request of the parish council, which bought and owned them.
District council leader Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst said: “We will continue to work cooperatively with Croxley Green Parish Council to find a solution to The Green that works for residents and the parish council.
“We have agreed to assist and fund the relocation of the 71 bounders to the museum, and we will relocate the others at the request of the parish council.”
