Thousands more cars are expected on the roads this weekend as motorists are warned to expect heavier traffic.
Bhaktivedanta Manor, by Letchmore Heath but accessed from Hillfield Lane, Bushey, will host the annual Sri Krishna Janmashtami festival from Friday (September 4) to Sunday.
It marks the appearance of Krishna and is the biggest annual event on the Hare Krishna calendar, celebrated with entertainment, dramas, music and a bazaar.
The manor's festival is regularly attended by as many as 50,000 people.
It has a ticketing system and shuttle bus service used to manage the number of vehicles arriving at the site, which often requires passing through nearby villages, and aims to minimise the impact on residents and businesses.
However, in previous years additional traffic problems at the same time have led to significant problems on nearby roads and the Watford Observer reported on ongoing roadworks causing long tailbacks in Elstree earlier today.

In 2025, festivalgoers reported getting in and out taking more than two hours due to “gridlock” as an administrative error saw more tickets issued for a one-hour period than the site could safely accommodate.
Seven years earlier, a car crash on the A41 during the event similarly resulted in major delays and the same happened due to an M1 crash in 2014.
Nearby Battlers Green Farm advised visitors that roads “could be busy” across the weekend, but confirmed it will be open as normal.
