Ollie Tavener is set to compete on his biggest stage yet after being named in the Great Britain squad for the European Junior Championships.
The North Watford teenager is one of 30 of this country’s brightest young swimmers selected for the event, which will be held in Kazan, Russia, from July 3 to 7.
Taverner, who is part of the Mount Kelly Swimming team, was selected following an impressive performance at this month's British Championships, the pinnacle being qualifying for the Men’s Open 50m breaststroke final after setting a personal best of 28.34 to make him the fastest junior competitor in the event.
The 18-year-old previously competed at the European Youth Olympic Festival in 2017, but this will be the first time he has taken part in an established international championships.
