Fans have sent in their congratulations to Watford legend Luther Blissett on his OBE.

Luther Blissett has been awarded an OBE for services to football and charity.

The 64-year-old, who made his Hornets debut in 1976 and became the club’s record goalscorer and leading appearance maker, said: “That my career as a footballer can be used by the charities to touch the lives, not just of football fans, but their families and the community as a whole is in itself a great honour.

“To receive an OBE not just for my achievements in football but for using that career for the good of others makes me immeasurably proud, even more so in this Platinum Jubilee year.”

Tony Fernandez on Facebook said: “I am beginning to realise just how big an impact you have on people in a caring and compassionate way. Congratulations Luther. Ambassador for Watford.”

Ian Hiles said: “Rightly so - Top guy who has done so much for the local Watford community - Brilliant!”

Your message of congratulations to LutherAs soon as I heard Luther was awarded the OBE I emailed my 2 daughters, headed “Now one for Luther Blissett”. When I spoon fed them after “one for mummy, one for daddy” the next was “one for Luther Blissett”. They both sent me spoon emojis. We had to wait so long for your first Watford hat trick v Sunderland Sept 1982 - 4 goals. For Bournemouth you obliged with 4 goals on your home debut! Congratulations Mr Watford and for continuing to help so many people.

Your message of congratulations to LutherI cannot think of another person connected with Watford FC and the local area, who deserves this honour more. A wonderful footballer and truly humble man , a grafter, giver not a taker. An inspiration to all young footballers, a man who could be dignified in the face of racism, hostility and criticism. Above all that wonderful smile, still helping others.

Your message of congratulations to LutherAmazing news Luther! A million congratulations to a fellow February 1958-er. You were the heartbeat of my best Watford supporting years as I followed my beloved Hornets from the foot of Division Four to the cup final and Europe. What an adventure we had both then and in GTs second coming when you were still front and centre as coach. But what you have done for the local community in the years since those heady days has been just as inspiring. An honour so well deserved!
