It’s a game that, when the fixtures were released in the summer, every fan looked for. The visit of arch rivals Luton Town to Vicarage Road.
It is 16 years since the two sides met at Watford with a crowd inside the stadium, and while many of those fans will be awaiting the game with baited breath, for others – as well for local people, businesses and the wider community – Sunday will also be of concern as painful memories of violence at previous Hornets and Hatters encounters in WD18.
It’s only natural for passions to run high and nobody would want to do anything that takes away the atmosphere generated by a derby match.
Indeed, we would urge everyone in the town to get behind the team, and do all they can to support Slaven Bilic and his players to claim a victory perhaps more precious than any other.
But we urge everyone to back the club with pride and in a manner of which we can all be proud. There is no place in football for violence, least of all at the original family club.
Come on you Hornets. Let’s win this one with style, on and off the pitch.
