Following on from head coach Slaven Bilic’s comments today that he intends to use the upcoming World Cup break as a mini pre-season, it’s understood the Hornets will spend a number of days in the sun shortly before the Championship season resumes in mid-December.

The club are understood to be organising for the first-team squad and staff to head to Alicante in the Costa Blanca, in south-east Spain.

It was a trip that had already been mooted when Rob Edwards was head coach, and plans are still ongoing now that Bilic is in charge.

Watford play away to Bristol City on November 12 and then don’t have another league game until they host Hull City on December 11.

During the pre-season just gone, Watford sent the squad to a training camp in Austria, which included a friendly game with Greek side Panathinaikos, that ended 0-0.

The Austrian training camp was also where the squad first met Yaser Asprilla, after he flew there from Colombia to meet up with his new teammates.

It’s not known yet if Watford will play any friendlies in Spain, or in England, during the World Cup break.
