The latest developments and next steps for reopening Cassiobury Park's café have been revealed.

Park-goers voiced disappointment after Cha Café closed at the end of August, following which the building was put on the market in October.

It has since gained a "large amount of interest", according to Perry Holt Chartered Surveyors, but the company said it could not comment further at this stage. 

The Watford Observer understands it would be “reasonable” to expect a new business to move in early next year.

Viewings are still being advertised for the site, which closed on August 31 when owners Brian and Mandy Evans retired.

With no new tenant in place, the historic pavilion building will remain out of use until one can be found.

Once bids are made, Watford Borough Council will then interview potential tenants and decide which to accept.

According to the council, “winning tenders will have to demonstrate they can offer high-quality refreshments and offer a service which is at the heart of the local community.

“They will also need to protect the heritage of the Edwardian building.”

When the café closed, Watford mayor Peter Taylor said: “The tender process will consider the special nature of Cassiobury Park, as well as the social value of having a local business run the café.”
