A pub company has confirmed there has been “interest” in taking over a town centre site, but no deal agreed.

The Colombia Press, in The Parade, closed on February 6 and had its last day of trading the previous day, after initially being put up for sale in September 2022.

Three months on, JD Wetherspoon, which owned the pub, has confirmed no deal has yet been agreed.

However, it did say that there has been interest in the property from potential operators.

The company declined to comment at this time when asked for more information as to how far along the negotiating process it has got.

According to a listing by the real estate company Savills, the boozer is held on a lease expiring on August 30, 2030, at a rent of £124,500 per annum subject to an upwards only review in 2025.

It was closed as part of a “commercial decision”, a Wetherspoon spokesperson said in February. Its name was stripped off the site and metal sheets were placed over the window front.
