A large police presence was spotted surrounding a building near Watford town centre before officers conducted a search.

Five police cars were apparently in Clarendon Road, opposite the Watford Palace Theatre, at around midday today (June 9) as the force were out in the street and behind the former RBS bank.

Hertfordshire Constabulary have confirmed that they were called at around 10.50am with reports that people had got into an empty building in the road.

When police arrived they searched the premises, but no one was found inside.

However, a number of suspected stolen tools were recovered.

Attempted burglary

Not long later, at around 1pm, there was an attempted burglary in Moor View, Watford, as a suspect tried to gain entry to a home though a back window.

They were unable to get in and left in an unknown direction.

Police have asked for information relating to this incident to be reported via the non-emergency number 101.
